he is upset by something this is the way he is trying to get attention. I know my cat pees on stuff when I am away and she always peed on the laundry when the basement, where her litter box is, was to dark

well maybe because when you moved his litter box maybe he liked that one better so when you move there territory they wont use it no more casue they get use to that one spot

She was used to doing it in the litter box upstairs, instead of just removing it, inch by inch move it away. What if your toilet suddenly disappeared? lol Move it everyday like half a feet a day or more

    i think.
    he’s doing this.
because he feels if the other cat doesnt have to use the litter box.
    why does he.
even though the other cat goes outside.
i dont know it that makes sicne.
but its the best answer i got.

This may sound harsh but your going to have to duct tape Dexter to the cat box. JUST KIDDING but when I had that problem, like you would do with your kid, I rubbed his nose in it while yelling at him and put him in his cat box. He got the message and never did it again.

you can buy some catnip spray and spray it in the litter tray cats LOVE it

It sounds like you have an open litter tray?, otherwise you wouldnt be able to smell anything lol
try one of the enclosed type, so that he can do his business in private…having the other cat around may have made him less sure of his territory & that could be why he is ignoring the tray, but making sure his smell is around the tray.

Maybe he got a urinary tract infection, and it hurts to use the box, so he avoids the box hoping it won’t hurt, don’t ask me why cats think like that, I never could figure them out.

Anyway, talk to a vet about it, in the meantime, put the litter box back upstairs, maybe he is mad at you, I don’t think so, cats don’t think like that either.

Don’t ask me why dogs like to get snacks out of the litter box either, you won’t like the answer, I guarantee.
