Baking soda is fantastic for any odor. If there is a visible stain then use Folex. It’s at Home Depot. It’s fantastic for removing stains. You will have to try it for colorfastness.

“OdorBan” I promise it will neutralize the odor.

spray carpet cleaning stuff on the spots then scrub with a brush. After that, get a shampooer and shampoo the rug.

I had a chocolate lab that had a pissing party to protest my bf moving in. The second you opened the front door the stench just about bowled you over. I used NATURES MIRACLE in my carpet cleaning machine. It took out all the dog odors and my place smells great.

Your best bet may be to take it to a dry cleaner. If it is wool you will be limited on what you can do to it without harming the rug. While it is at the cleaners make sure you thoroughly clean the flooring under the rug.

I had this happen to me once and since the antique rug was so huge I had no way to get it to a cleaners. First I applied an enzyme carpet pre-treatment especially for urine/pet stains and then I steam cleaned the rug with hot water. I used the pre-treatment and shampoo they sell with the steam cleaner. I had to do this twice. Then I sprayed a lot of Fabreze on both sides of the rug and on the floor underneath the rug. I use a box fan and a ceiling fan to dry it. It was a big job but the rug smells as fresh as can be now. If you try this be sure to test a small hidden area to make sure the material is colorfast. Good luck!

Take the rugs outside, wash with a hose and a detergent with an enzyme. (Very important) Tide and Era are two. Dry over a line. The odor will go away. Those pet urine solutions they sell at pet stores are enzyme solutions. Do not use ammonia, that’ll make the odor worse.
