I’ve owned two carpet shampooers in my life. The Bissell and a Hoover.
I didn’t feel like either of them did as great a job as the ones you rent…and since you only should shampoo carpets once or twice a year that’s what I recommend.
Another tip for high-traffic areas: place a runner rug (that’s machine washable) in hallways and entranceways. That way your carpet won’t take such a beating!
I **** to tell you but if your Bissell shampooer isn’t cutting it you likely need an expensive commericial-quality shampooer. (or rent one) Either that or try some different shampoos and use a scotchguard treatment afterwards. I agree with the previous post, you may want to put down some runners…

You’re better off renting a rug cleaner to do the job. They are much more efficient and not too expensive to rent from Lowes, Home Depot, etc.
