A anti allergen type of shampoo will help (as will a good shampooer, not a cheapo, I have a Kirby (yeah it’s pricey) and it is far and away the best investment I made for keeping my home clean, but routine use of a carpet deodorizer may be necessary. Unless you can afford to take the carpet out. Sometimes the smell can be mold that has set under the carpet from getting wet too much and the odor settling underneath.
You really need to deep clean the carpet with a professional type carpet cleaner. A domestic appliance is not heavy duty enough.
Bicarb of soda is a wonderful deoderant which you could try sprinkling onto the underfoam and the carpet itself – leave a while then vacuum up.
I kno wyou are renting and you really want the smell out but the only real way to get rid of the smell is to replace the pad. there are some products available at the local pet stores that guarantees to get rid of the odors but I have my doubts about how well they work. hiring a professional to clean the carpet would help too….the steam will get down deeper than your household machine and it will have more suction.
GOD DAMN GET SOME FRRRBEEZE STOP MAKING IT HARD FOR YOURSELF LISTEN TO WHAT I AM SAYING FFFFFFFRRRRRRRRBBBBRRRRREEEEEZZZZEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GET IT !!!!!!!!!! SSSSSSSUUUUUUURRRRRREEEEE
I agree with one of the past post. Hire some one to clean out the carpet professionally. They might be able to get the odor out. Who know’s how long it may have sat in the carpet? You just might have to **** it up and remove the padding and carpeting and put new carpet in.
You said you used carpet fresh for pets. Have you tried nature’s miracle? (petco, pet supermarket, wallmart) It removes odor and stains. I have never tried it but there is very good feedback from those who use this product.

Try sprinkling baking soda and then pouring or spraying vinegar on the spot. Let it soak.
